A transformer oil BDV tester is equipment that measure the "breakdown voltge" of transformer oil. What is breakdown voltage? Imagine push two wires closer, air between them spark and electricity jump. That spark point is the breakdown. Oil in transformers insulate wires and cool them. It need to stop electricity jump where not suppose to. The BDV tester raise voltage slow between electrodes in oil sample. When oil cant hold and spark happen, it record that voltage. Low number mean oil not work right, maybe old or dirty with water or impurities. Water is big problem cause it lower insulation a lot. Thats why tester so key.
