What It Is & Why You Need It for Cable Testing
A VLF tester, that stands for Very Low Frequency tester, is special equipment used to check health of high power electrical cables. Imagine you got a long important hose carrying water. You want no leaks or weak spots before turn on full blast, right? VLF tester does similar for cables. It sends special kind of electricity at much lower frequencey than normal through the cable. This low frequencey electricity is gentler on the cable’s insulaton, which like protective coating around wires. But even gentle, it strong enough to show if there any weaknesses or problems in that insulaton. These weaknesses, called defects, can be tiny cracks, air bubbles or moisture inside. If we don’t find them, they could grow over time especialy when cable carries lots of power. Eventualy a defect lead to cable failure, means the cable breaks and power goes out. This big problem for places needing power always, like hospitals or factories.
