FAQ
Q: What is the principle of the extraction neutralization titration method for acid value testing?
A: The principle is based on the acid-base neutralization reaction. A certain mass of oil sample is mixed with a specific volume of extraction solvent (boiling ethanol), heated to 60℃ and oscillated to extract the acidic components from the oil into the ethanol phase. After oil-water separation, BTB indicator is added to the ethanol phase. The solution is then titrated with standard KOH-ethanol solution until the color changes from yellow to blue-green. The acid value is calculated based on the volume of KOH solution consumed, expressed in mg KOH per gram of oil sample.
Q: How does the photoelectric endpoint detection work?
A: The instrument uses white LED light to illuminate the test solution, and a high-sensitivity photodiode to detect the transmitted light intensity. When the solution color changes from yellow to blue-green at the titration endpoint, the transmitted light intensity changes significantly. The instrument automatically captures this change and determines the endpoint accurately, eliminating the subjective error of manual visual judgment and the interference of dark oil color.
Q: How long does a typical test take?
A: A single sample test including heating to 60℃, oscillation, static layering, titration and result calculation takes approximately 7 minutes. For 6 samples tested simultaneously, the total test time is approximately 25 minutes. This is much faster than manual testing which usually takes 30~60 minutes per sample.
Q: Can it test dark or heavily aged oil samples?
A: Yes. The photoelectric colorimetric endpoint detection system is specifically designed to eliminate the interference of dark oil color. It can accurately determine the titration endpoint even for heavily aged dark brown or black transformer oil samples, which is a significant advantage over manual visual titration.
